PURPOSE OF THE INSTITUTO HENRY GEORGE, NICARAGUA
"In accordance with the philosophy of the US political economist Henry George, the Instituto Henry George holds that all persons have an common right of equal access to the use of all of the natural opportunities of the Earth, and that all persons have an absolute right to the private ownership of the fruits of their own labor. To implement these fundamental rights, the Instituto Henry George proposes that the Rent (Natural Value) of Land be taken by the community as public revenue, while at the same time all taxes on labor and the fruits of labor be eliminated. The Institute believes with George that ‘liberty means justice and justice is the natural law,’ and that the social and economic ills besetting the world today are the result of a non-conformance to natural law. The Institute pledges itself to bring this philosophy to the attention of the nicaraguan public by all suitable means. The Instituto Henry George is not allied with any political or religious tendency in or outside of Nicaragua. Its only purpose is to offer the Nicaraguan people an alternative to the interpretation of their socio-economic-political situation so that they may recognize and choose the best system that can provide them with the healthy economic and social environment desired by all."

"De acuerdo con la filosofía del economista-filósofo Henry George, el Instituto Henry George declara que toda persona tiene el derecho común al acceso igual al uso de todas las oportunidades naturales de la Tierra, y que todos tenemos el derecho individual absoluto al fruto completo de nuestro propio trabajo. Para implementar estos derechos fundamentales, el Instituto Henry George propone que la Renta (Valor Natural) de la Tierra sea recaudada por la comunidad para uso de los fondos públicos, mientras que al mismo tiempo todos los impuestos sobre el trabajo y el fruto del trabajo queden eliminados. El Instituto cree con George que ‘la libertad quiere decir la justicia, y la justicia es la ley natural’, y que el malestar socio-económico que acosa al mundo de hoy es el resultado de la falta de concordancia con la ley natural. El Instituto se dedica a llevar esta filosofía a la atención del público nicaragüense por todos los medios posibles. El Instituto Henry George no está aliado con ninguna tendencia política ni religiosa dentro ni afuera de Nicaragua. THE ROOT CAUSE OF POVERTY IN NICARAGUA . . . AND ITS REMEDY
Nicaragua is a naturally rich country suffering from an artificially induced poverty. She is rich in good land, various material resources, centrally located with access to two oceans, giant lakes and exotic lagoons, dense timberlands, productive mineral mines, fertile agricultural resources, and vigorous, capable human resources. Nicaragua has an active and growing internal market for products and services with a growing population willing and able to work to satisfy that demand and also produce for exportation. The IHG believes that the increasing poverty and social degradation experienced by the majority of Nicaraguans is caused by a fundamental structural error of her macro-economic system which institutionalizes the inordinate and unproductive appropriation of the national wealth by a private land and resource-owning minority (both national and foreign) at the expense of the productive majority. This systemic error is based upon the mistaken notion of considering the VALUE of Land (including all natural resources and public monopolies) as private property, while legitimate private property, the wealth that is produced by labor and capital (physical wealth employed to produce more wealth), is arbitrarily confiscated for public funding. This system foments widespread speculation in Land Values which leaves the working majority without affordable access to their own sovereign resources and territory. The growing consequences are clearly visible: mass unemployment and extreme poverty, stagnated wages alongside steadily rising business/government costs and consumer prices, inefficient use of land and wasteful destruction of natural resources, large-scale corruption on all levels of society, social division and human degradation, desperation, violence and disempowerment of the population. This unacceptable and inevitably self-destructive situation can be simply remedied via the implementation of a public Land Value Tax (LVT) system which collects the full rent value of all land and natural resources while at the same time eliminating all taxation of labor, commerce, savings, and productive capital investment. With this simple but profound change in her macro-economic structure, Nicaragua (and any other country) can speedily recover from her economic stagnation and foreign dependency to become an economically prosperous and socially healthy democracy for the benefit of all Nicaraguans as well as a positive example of economic justice for the rest of the world. LA CAUSA PRIMORDIAL DE LA POBREZA EN NICARAGUA. . . Y SU REMEDIO
Nicaragua es un país rico que está sufriendo una pobreza artificialmente creada y mantenida. Es rico en buenas tierras, varios recursos naturales, de ubicación central con acceso a dos oceanos, grandes lagos y lagunas exóticas, densos bosques de maderas, productivas minas de minerales, fértiles recursos agricultures, y recursos humanos vigorosos y capaces. Nicaragua tiene un activo y creciente mercado interno para el consumo de muchos productos y servicios y tiene una creciente población dispuesto y capaz de trabajar para satisfacer aquella demanda tanto como para producir para la exportación. El IHG cree que la pobreza abrumante y la degradación social creciente en la vida de la mayoría de los nicaragüenses tiene su causa en un error fundamental del sistema macro-económico nacional lo cual institucionaliza y impulsa la apropiación excesiva y antiproductiva de la riqueza nacional por una minoría de recurso y terratenientes (nacional y extranjero) al costo de la mayoría productiva. Este error sistémico tiene su base en el concepto equivocado de que el VALOR de la Tierra (que incluye todo recurso natural y monopolio público) puede ser considerado como propiedad privada mientras la propiedad privada legítima (los frutos del trabajo y de la inversión del capital) son confiscados para los fondos públicos. Este sistema fomenta una especulación general en Valores de Tierra, la cual deja a la mayoría productiva sin acceso factible a su propio patrimonio económico (recursos y territorio). Las crecientes consecuencias son plenamente visibles: desempleo masiva y pobreza extrema, salarios estancados al lado de altos costos empresariales/gubernamentales y alto precios al consumidor, uso ineficiente de tierras y destrucción inecesaria de recursos naturales, corrupción generalizada en todos los niveles de la sociedad, división y degradación social, desesperación, violencia y impotencia de la población. Estas condiciones no aceptables y autodestructivas pueden ser remediadas por medio de la aplicación de un sistema tributario público de un Impuesto sobre el Valor de la Tierra (IVT) que recaude el pleno valor de la renta de todas las tierras y recursos naturales para los fondos públicos mientras queden eliminados todos los impuestos sobre el trabajo, el comercio, el ahorro, y la inversión del capital productivo. Con este sencillo pero profundo cambio en su estructura macroeconómica, Nicaragua puede recuperar rapidamente de su estancamiento económico y dependencia externa para hacerse una democracia economicamente próspera y socialmente sana para el beneficio de todo nicaragüense y como un ejemplo positivo de justicia económica para el resto de mundo. WHAT WE DO
The Instituto Henry George realizes scientific studies of the economic situation of Nicaragua, analyzes and interprets these and other data from the perspective of the Georgist Economic Paradigm, disseminates the results of the interpretation of these studies, surveys and analyses in various forms (books, pamphlets, internet, cassettes, videos) and presents and teaches the Georgist economic paradigm to all sectors of the nicaraguan population. IHG educational projects include an intensive "Understanding Economics" course, intensive workshops for professional and leaders of all public and private sectors, radio and television programming, direct educational public outreach.

QUE HACEMOS
El Instituto Henry George hace estudios científicos sobre la situación económica de Nicaragua, analiza e interpreta estos y otros datos desde la perspectiva del Paradigma Económico Georgista, difunde los resultados de la interpretación de estos estudios, encuestas y analises en varias formas (libros, panfletos, internet, cassettes, videos) y presenta y enseña el paradigma económico georgista a todos los sectores de la población nicaragüense. Proyectos educativos del IHG incluyen un popular curso intensivo "Comprender la Economía", talleres intensivos para profesionales y líderes de todo sector público y privado, programación de radio y televisión, contacto educativo directo con el público.
