The Program

The integrated Spanish study program at Escuela Horizonte is based on three components: the spanish language program, the afternoon activity program, and the homestay family program. We have developed these three components to serve as a base for a well rounded educational and life experience.

Our spanish language program is specifically tailored to meet your needs as a beginning, intermediate or advanced student. You set the pace and determine the direction your class takes by stating what your expectations, goals, and needs are. Classes are Monday through Friday for four hours each day with a mixture of grammar, pronunciation, sentence structure, listening exercises, reading, and conversation. The average course study is four weeks but longer or shorter courses are gladly accommodated.

Our afternoon activity program is designed to raise awareness about cultural issues relevant to Nicaragua such as the history, politics, and economics that have come to form the current Nicaragua. Afternoon activities include visits to local cooperatives, cultural and historical sites, community development programs as well as conversations with community leaders and educators. Volunteer opportunities are available with many of the organizations that we visit.

Our homestay family program as well serves to provide you with opportunities to practice speaking Spanish while learning about Nica families and our culture. You will have a room of your own complete with meals and an opportunity to learn about Nicaragua from generous, open families.

Escuela Horizonte has a professional staff of professors with more than 10 years of experience in teaching Spanish as a second language. Our staff understands the challenges students face. In addition, every professor is required to participate in workshops and ongoing training to maintain optimum performance in every aspect of their professional career here at Escuela Horizonte. Our professors are friendly and dedicated to helping you reach your goals.
