School's History

Escuela Horizonte (NICA) Nuevo Instituto de CentroAmerica, was founded in 1991 by Egdelina Lanuza after working seven years as a professor in the well known school “Escuela NICA“. Egdelina's vision was to create a school focused on providing a strong language program within the context of Nicaraguan culture including the history, politics, and economics of the people.

Escuela Horizonte is a private school with a philosophy based on the vision of promoting peace and social justice for those living in poverty, those struggling against class, race and gender prejudices, and those fighting for political freedom. Escuela Horizonte is dedicated to helping by financially supporting them as they share their knowledge through speaking engagements, one-on-one meetings and excursions to the various places and organizations.

Escuela Horizonte is located in beautiful Estelí two hours north of Managua. Nestled in between mountains, the climate is cool and fresh. Mango and banana trees color the landscape as the calls of a variety of birds echo across the land. The Spirit of Nicaragua is strong and vibrant in Estelí, the center of much political and revolutionary history.
