Excursions

Excursions outside of Estelí will require a nominal fee for transportation and may have entrance fees ranging from $5 to $15. Excursions are carried out on the weekends, depending on the number of students.

• Excursion to the Valle de Miraflor - A visit to 3 agricultural cooperatives. "Miraflor" cultivates basic grains and operates ecological projects preserving their natural lagoon. "Oro Verde" cultivates organic coffee, basic grains, organic fertilizer, and raises cattle. "El Naranjo" produces vegetables and ornamental plants, flowers, potatoes and raises cattle. "El Zontule" cultivates coffee.
• Trip to Condega - Visiting an archeologic museum, the ceramic cooperativa "Ducuale" and a small candle factory.
• Visit to El pozo de la Muerte (The Well of Death) and a women cooperative- It was here in March of 1979 where 13 children, women, and men were tortured and murdered by the Contras during the war. The history is told by family members who lived there at the time. Located in Buena Vista.
• Excursion to la Cascada 'Salto de la Estanzuela' - A day hike to explore a waterfall and the natural beauty of the countryside. Located 5 kms south of Estelí.
• Visit to natural reservation area El Tisey - This area with beautiful mountains is located 8 kms south of Estelí. The small community "El Jalacate" has very humble and friendly people, including an indigenous sculptor who works in the same stones containing sculptures from ancient to modern times. In " La Garnacha" you can enjoy a fabulous panoramic view and also visit a small cheese factory.
